Ali Wentworth is an American actress, comedian, author, and producer. Her roles include the series In Living Color and the films Jerry Maguire, Trial and Error (1997), and It’s Complicated.

She is the daughter of heiress and socialite Muffie Cabot (born Mable Bryant Hobart) and Eric Bartlett Wentworth (born Frederic Clay Bartlett III), a reporter for The Washington Post. Her father took his stepfather John Wentworth’s name. Her mother was White House Social Secretary during the Reagan administration. Ali is a granddaughter of architect Richard Bryant Hobart, who helped design Brookfield Zoo and Meigs Field, and of explorer Janet Elliott Wulsin; a great-granddaughter of prominent artist and art collector Frederic Clay Bartlett; and a great-great-great-great-granddaughter of John McKinley, who was a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Alabama, from March 4, 1833 to March 3, 1835, a U.S. Senator from Alabama, from November 27, 1826 to March 3, 1831, and again, from March 4, 1837 to April 22, 1837, and an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, from January 9, 1838 to July 19, 1852.

Her father was from Chicago and her mother was from Boston. Both of her parents were from upper-class “WASP” families. Her parents married in an Episcopalian ceremony. Among her ancestors are several Mayflower passengers, including her tenth great-grandfather, Myles Standish. Ali’s stepfather was Czech Jewish journalist Henry Brandon, of The Sunday Times, to whom her mother was married, until his death. Her mother later re-married to Louis Wellington Cabot.

Her maternal grandparents died from carbon monoxide poisoning in their home in 1963.

She is married to television host and political advisor George Stephanopoulos, with whom she has two children.

Ali’s paternal grandfather was Frederic Clay Bartlett, Jr. (the son of Frederic Clay Bartlett and Dora E. Tripp). Ali’s grandfather Frederic was born in Chicago, Cook, Illinois. Ali’s great-grandfather Frederic was the son of Adolphus Clay Bartlett and Mary H. Pitkin, who was born in Vermont. Adolphus was partner of the Chicago store Hibbard and Spencer. Ali’s great-grandmother Dora was the daughter of Daniel J. Tripp and Lucy Sutherland.

Ali’s paternal grandmother was Mary Agnes Tilt (the daughter of Charles Arthur Tilt and Agnes Josephine Morgan). Mary was born in Chicago, Cook, Illinois. Charles founded the Diamond T Car Company. He was the son of Joseph Edward Tilt and Sarah B. Thompson, who were from Wilton, Ontario, Canada. Joseph’s parents were from County Armagh, Ireland. Ali’s great-grandmother Agnes was the daughter of Fred William Morgan and Mary Allen Wright.

Ali’s maternal grandfather was Richard Bryant Hobart (the son of George Burnap Hobart and Mabel B. Bryant). Richard was born in Plymouth, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts. George was the son of Henry Hobart and Mary Towner Burnap, who was from Chester, Windsor, Vermont. Mabel was the daughter of Seth Bryant and Jane Breed.

Ali’s maternal grandmother was Janet Elliott Wulsin (born Janet January Elliott, the daughter of Howard Elliott and Janet January). Ali’s grandmother Janet was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and was a Red Cross nurse in WWI before joining her first husband, Frederick Roelker Wulsin, on expeditions to China, Tibet, and Outer Mongolia; with a grant from the National Geographic Society. Howard Elliott was a railroad executive, and was the son of Charles Wyllys Elliott and Mary Green White. Ali’s great-grandmother Janet was the daughter of Derrick Algernon January and Julia Churchill. Julia’s grandfather was John McKinley.
