Bryshere Gray, known for his role as Hakeem on the Fox drama Empire, was arrested following allegations of assaulting and strangling his wife until she lost consciousness.
The incident occurred around 10:15 pm on July 12, when Goodyear Police responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic assault at the couple’s home. The victim identified Gray as the assailant, and police noted visible injuries on her body, stating that she had been strangled until she passed out.
Despite non-life-threatening injuries, the woman was taken to the hospital for treatment and was subsequently released. Detectives and a Victim’s Advocate provided continued support after her discharge from the hospital.
Upon the police’s arrival at their home in Goodyear, Arizona, Gray barricaded himself inside and refused to come out, resulting in the deployment of Goodyear SWAT and Crisis Negotiations teams. After about nine hours, he surrendered to authorities without incident and was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on domestic violence charges.
Gray has appeared in all 102 episodes of Empire, and other productions such as Sprinter, Canal Street, and Honey: Rise Up and Dance.
